The Golden Thread

This tour is a 15 day (itinerary) tour with a 6 day (itinerary) extension to Rajasthan. The full tour is 21 days for which most people book. This year i am offering a further 6 day extension to Jaisalmer and Jodphur. The tour starts on the 25th January with the return date for 21 days being the 14th February and with the further Rajasthan extension the return date will be 20th February.

This is the second year I have run the Textile tour as a combination Textile/Painting tour. It was so successful I am re peating it this year. Both Painters and Textilers benefited from each others disiplines. It added a richness to the tour.

It is a nice time to travel in India when the days resemble good English weather. The focus is on design while taking in all the wealth of Indian culture and of course the rich variety of textile crafts. We visit major craftsmen with some hands on workshops.

The highlight of the tour is when we go on Safari and stay in the villages of Kutch, which has been very much enjoyed by the groups.
Gujarat being the most important state in India for Textiles is where we stay for 13 days of the tour. The Rajasthan extension includes beautiful Udiapur with it Lakes Palace and minature painters. The Pink city of Jaipur with different textile crafts, hand made paper and some of India's major monuments, including the Taj Mahal.

Highlights of the tour include

We visit master craftsmen. Patan, Patolawallas, who produce the world famous Ikat weaving. Some hands on workshops may include felt making, block printing, tie and dye and shisha embroidery.
We go on safari, and stay in the villages of Kutch (very much enjoyed by the groups).
The Calico museum in Ahmedabad.
Both the beautiful 'White' city of Udiapur and the 'Pink' city of Jaipur.
The Delhi Mela - a fair with Textile craftsmen and women from every state in India. A lovely way to finish the tour

Textile tour 2006

Magical Jaisalmer on the edge of the Thar desert. The remote walled town rising out of the desert is such a wonderful experience, The golden stone built town offers a wealth of images for the painters and also a wonderful range of textiles. After 3 days here we travel to blue city of Jodphur with its formidable majestic Fort. From here we return to Delhi for our flight home. ( Itinerary )
